When you cross the finish line of sales, the task of retaining your customer begins, which takes just as much creativity as making the first sale. The most important thing you have to do when a prospect becomes a buyer is to confirm their confidence in your business.
A thank you email with a customer satisfaction survey is mandatory and should be immediately received by your new customer after their purchase. But in addition to this, be sure that you not only ask them if there is anything else they need such as product use or warranty information, but provide them with your after-hours contact information in case they encounter a problem.
Organize your customer information to include personal data about your customer such as their birthday, or their anniversary and be sure to send a e-card to let them know that you not only appreciate their business, but their character.
Send your customers special discount codes in appreciation for their purchase and give them the opportunity to enroll in a "rewards" program to receive extra discounts for referring other customers to you.
Finally when your prospect has had enough time to use the product, contact them and ask them to give you a written or video testimonial with permission to use it as part of your marketing material.
Video testimonials from satisfied customers are worth their weight in gold and much more effective than text testimonials alone. If your customer also has a website, include a link to their site so that they can receive referral traffic in return for their goodwill.
Crossing the finish line of one sale is the starting line for referrals, repeat sale and up-sells, treat your customers like they are VIPs and you'll be holding the victory cup with a lot of fans cheering you on.
