Choosing the Right MLM Vehicle
Which Type of Website Design Should You Choose?
Thinking of your MLM website design like a vehicle helps you to put the features into perspective. While your web host is the garage and pit-crew that maintain its presence online, the design is what allows your prospects to see what you have to offer and interact with your website.
Things get a bit sticky when it's time to choose the TYPE of design, because there are so many more variations and combinations of technology now than in 2001. As you can see by the graphic on the left the top graphic shows the way a typical website looked in 2001, the bottom graphic shows how a typical website looks in 2010. Notice the vibrant colors, small header and neatly organized sections. This is commonly called the "Web 2.0" look. Your MLM website should have a Web 2.0 look to attract the prospects that you want.
One of the most popular formats for web design is the HTML/PHP this is the coding language that defines the presentation, and CSS which defines the layout of the presentation. Defining the layout means how many sections you want your page to have and the width and depth of each section. Your page has a header at the top of the page, a footer at the bottom and one, two, three or four columns.
Inside these columns beside text and photo content, you can have video, and a newsletter subscription box, but be sure your webhosting account includes a Database application to store all of your subscriber information.
The fastest and easiest way to set-up a website is to select a template that as close as possible to the look that you want and then replace the "dummy" text and images with your own.
Today there are several high-quality Web 2.0 templates available online at no charge that are easy to work with on your own. Or if you hire a designer to do this work for you, it will cost you a lot less than having a template designed from scratch.
In addition, many webhosting companies offer website builder applications that walk you through the process and you don't have to know any coding language at all.
The second most popular format for web design is Flash, which is much more complicated than HTML and definitely needs to be used sparingly for specific parts of your website, for example the header section. The main reason why it's not recommended to use Flash for the entire site is because the search engines cannot read the text in a image which is what Flash is: an animated image.
Sites that are designed with Flash usually have "loading" pages and most people want to see the website immediately after they click the link leading to it.
It's important for your credibility to your prospects that the look of your website design be on or above the same level as your competition.
